Celestion Gold, 12", 8-ohm,
50-watts, 33-oz AlNiCo Speaker
Finally, a Celestion Blue with increased power
handling! The all new Celestion AlNiCo Gold
is a recreation of the original 15-Watt Blue, only
with a heavier duty voice coil and former that allows for a higher 50-watts
power rating!
The Celestion AlNiCo Gold speaker is made in the
new Celestion plant in England and is an accurate reproduction of the original
Blue!
We have already tested and compared a new Gold
and a Blue, which are loaded side-by-side in the
same demo cabinet. Predictably, the AlNiCo Gold
requires more power to fully wake it up to its potential, which is a good thing
for higher power applications and today's amplifiers that offer higher power
ratings! The new Gold retains the sound of
the original (vintage) Blue, with the trademark "chimy"
top end with lots of sparkle, midrange punch, and a more raw vintage sound!
To my ears, the new Gold actually sounds more like
a vintage Blue than the modern
Blue does! Over the years, the modern Blue
has morphed into a more modern, smoother sounding speaker. The new Gold
retains the raw edge of the original vintage Blue. To my ears, the new Gold
also has slightly
more bottom end (low frequency response) than the Blue.
When it does wakeup, the Gold is every bit as
lively as the Blue, only bigger sounding,
louder and with a bit of vintage edge. And, it handles 50-watts!
In my opinion, the new Celestion AlNiCo Gold
resolves the two biggest issues with the Blue, 1)
the low 15-watt power rating and 2) the lack of any real bottom end ... and is THE most significant new product from Celestion in years!
This is the latest version Gold with the updated
speaker connection terminals that accepts clips or soldering, Note, the
original version of the Gold had vintage style
"solder-only" terminals, which were later changed to modern clip on type
terminals in response to customer requests.
The
AlNiCo Gold is an
excellent replacement for vintage and current production Marshall, Vox, Mesa,
Fender, Hughes & Kettner and many other amplifiers.
