Flexi-50 Class-AB Tube Amplifier
The THD Flexi-50 is an American made, Class-AB,
50-watt/20-watt switchable power tube amplifier, with foot-switchable
overdrive/boost and master volume control, and built-in external bias test
points and bias controls.
The Flexi-50 is designed to allow you the
ability to easily switch the two (2) octal type output tubes at
will, for an amazing breadth of different tones.
Usable tubes include 6L6, EL34, 6V6, 6CA7, 8417, 6550, KT66, KT77, KT88, KT90,
KT100, 6K6 and 6F6. EL84 output tubes may also be used with the purchase
of THD YJS or YJ20 Yellow Jacket
adaptors. An external bias test points and individual bias controls
allows the user to quickly and accurately set the output tube bias with any
digital voltmeter. The dual bias controls permit the user to correctly
bias even mis-matched tubes, eliminating the need for matched power tubes.
The three preamp tubes may also be easily switched with any combination of
12AX7, 12AT7, 12AU7, 12AY7, 12AZ7, 12DW7, 12BH7, ECC83, ECC82 or ECC81 dual triode preamp tubes, for an even
greater pallet of complex tone capabilities.
From fat, clear, full clean tones
reminiscent of late-1950's to early 1960's American combo amps, overdrive to
rival the best British heads, and immediacy, clarity and "punch" of a grid-based
Class-AB amplifier ... this little amp
does it all!
Input Lo/Hi switch toggles the input gain from low to high.
Boost Gain circuit adds an additional gain stage and a more "British"
sounding EQ voicing, with thicker low and lower-midrange frequencies.
Master Volume that can be switched completely out of the circuit.
50-Watt / 20-Watt switch that toggles the Flexi-50's
plate voltage to the power tubes from 475V (50-Watt) to 325V (20-Watt).
Lowering the plate voltage both reduces the volume of the amp and changes its
character. In 50-watt mode, the Flexi-50
is slightly tighter and more aggressive; in 20-watt mode it is a bit warmer and
smoother sounding.
Selectable 2, 4, 8 and 16-ohm output
impedance switch, allows you the external connection capability for almost any
application. One of the Flexi-50's
innovations is its ability to always use 100% of the transformer windings all of
the time, regardless of impedance setting, which assures a full, even output
sound.
Simple user controls, unbelievable
flexibility, multiple complex tone capability and 50 LOUD watts makes the
THD Flexi-50 a serious
amplifier for recording studios, small to medium size venues or session
applications where a higher output wattage and almost unlimited tone flexibility are required in a
single amp!
